The guesthouse

Irene Guesthouse in Afissos, Pelion

A guesthouse in the garden of Afissos, a few minutes from Ampovos and the Pagasetic Gulf. Private parking in the courtyard, each room with its own balcony in the tree shade, and a shared space looked after every day.

The sea

Ampovos, a few metres from the door

Afissos is a seaside village of Pelion, built in an amphitheatre above the Pagasetic Gulf. From the guesthouse you reach the sea in a few minutes on foot, without a car.

The main beach is Ampovos: organised, with fine pebble or sand and usually calm, clear water, because the gulf shelters it from open wind. There are umbrellas, sunbeds, a beach bar and tavernas along the shore.

From the village square you walk down to the beach easily. Nearby are Kallifteri, Lagoudi and small coves towards Lefokastro if you want a quieter swim the same day.

Arrival

Private parking in the courtyard

You enter under the wooden “Irene Guesthouse” sign. The car stays on the plot, in private parking, not on the village road.

The entrance and parking are in the stone courtyard, under olive trees and next to the flowers. You load and unload beside the building, without hunting for a space in summer.

At night the plot gate is closed. Parking is for guests of the house.

Rooms

Each room has its own balcony

Each room has its own balcony or small terrace facing the garden. You do not share the outdoor space: a table, chairs and your own air in the morning and evening.

The shade is natural. We prune and water the trees in front of the balconies all year, so in summer you sit cool without shutting yourself indoors.

If you want more shade in the hot hours, we give extra umbrellas for the balcony. You open the room door and step straight out, looking at leaves and stone, not the road.

Courtyard

A shared courtyard, cleaned every day

The shared courtyard is the heart of the house: stone floor, olives, roses and space to sit together without walking into someone else’s room.

It is cleaned every day. We water, gather leaves and keep the stones and beds in order, so in the morning the space is ready.

Under the pergola there is a table for coffee, food or a game in the shade. Beside it, the garden with the large olives stays cool even at midday in July.

Garden

Trees we tend all year

The shade here is not an accident. The olives, fruit trees and climbers are part of the house: we prune them in winter, water them in spring and summer, and keep the beds so they can stand Pelion heat.

That is why in summer you sit on the balcony and in the courtyard without hunting for artificial shade from the first minute. The trees filter the sun, cool the stone floor and keep the place green after August.

If the sun falls harder on your balcony one day, ask for an extra umbrella. The rest of the time the shade comes from a garden we tend twelve months, not only in the tourist season.
